Getting Your Web Site Seen The Right Way!
If you haven't been called by web site or internet marketing guys at least once a day, then don't worry they'll find you. Heck I even get recorded calls daily asking me to listen how they can get my web site to the top of the search engines or get thousands of hits on my site.

Now what these guys are offering is called Search Engine Optimization or Pay Per Click ( Search Engine Marketing. For more detail information on those subjects click on the sentence " How To get Customers To Your Web Site"

Meanwhile there are other ways to get visitors to your web site. The main ways that are popular ( and work ) are:

Post Card Mailing

Email Marketing

Now Post Card and Email marketing may not be shocking new concepts to you, but how they are used in conjunction with your web site is.

Let me explain
Email Marketing Information

I don't know about you , but emails from people who I don't know really upset me. So when I talk about email marketing, I don't suggest you blasting emails to everyone you don't know in your service area. I also don't suggest that you email everyone you know an advertisement of your company or your weekly special. If you send one to me, I'll send you back an email requesting that I be taken off the list. I see enough advertisements on TV, I don't need an email ad.

Although it may work ( sending specials ), for me it just irritates me to end. What I do suggest to get your emails opened by your customers is to offer really important advice or warnings about plumbing, or building issues.

For example a new law in Maryland states that if you hire a mold remediator, they now have to be licensed by the state.

I took the actual law and posted on my web site. Then I emailed all my customers who I knew would be interested ( not Mrs. Jones who is 80 years old who could care less).

Although not everyone opened up my emails ( I know because I use an email service that tells me who opened up emails and who went into my web site to see the new mold law ), I knew by the amount of emails opened and who read the actual mold law in my web site that it was an interesting piece of good information.

Imagine that you want to find which of your customers is possibly planning to remodel their bathrooms.

Email your customers that you have "3 warnings on how to avoid wasting money when remodeling their bathroom" . Tell them that the information is on your web site.

With a special emailing program (

you can find out who clicked on to your web site for the warnings.

With that list you can send them a post card with other helpful hints or even offer to come to the house for free to design an idea of what they want.

Remember that you don't want to scare them off, so remind them always that your not asking for the business and that you'll wait for their phone call.
Post Card Marketing Information

Most plumbers ( business in general ) don't have a clue about getting customers to either buy or call their offices when customers use their web site .

Sadly they get calls or see ads from folks who offer ways of getting their web site seen by thousands of visitors. What makes it sad, is that even those " experts" don't advise their clients that hits or visits don't mean a hill of beans. Getting the customer to see the site and then calling you because of the site is what you want.

The web experts may tell you that it's a numbers game ( hopefully with thousands of web site visits some one will call you ). Hopefully getting your site up in the ranks of the search engines will get you lots of hits, but there are better ways of " throwing " your web site out like that.

One way is to get your customers ( future customers ) to visit your web site is to use old techniques like
post cards. Many customers ( especially customers like me over 40 ) aren't that slick with the internet and may not be able to use the right key words to find your site. So why not go directly to your potential customers and say " hey I have this great web site that has amazing information or deals". That way your potential customers know that you have a web site that can help them.

Post cards created correctly shouldn't sell for you, just get people interested in your product and service and wanting more information. The post card should get them to call your office. But most people either feel uncomfortable calling your office at that moment( because that feel they have to buy right now) or just don't need your service at the time their reading your post card or mailing piece. But there is another way.

Let me give you an example. Let's say Mrs. Jones is thinking about remodeling her bathroom but not right now. She gets your post card , but right now she can't afford it so she throws it away.

Now let's say that you send a post card that offers 3 free remodel designs that usually cost $ 500.00 for the design, but they can get the remodel designs for free if they go to your web site. On the post card let them know that you know there aren't ready to buy, but getting the designs will save them money in the future ( it's just an idea, you probably can think of some others ). Remember that any offer has to be really good that the interested customer would have to be crazy not to take the free offer.

Now once they are at your web site to see the free designs, you offer one more award design that will blow their socks off or some other great idea that they'll really want

The great thing about the technique is that you get a list of interested people who you know are going to remodel their bathrooms. Also there are services that you can use that will automatically send an educational informational email about bathroom remodeling for you and you won't even know it was sent. Remember no one wants to see an email that's an advertisement. What they want is a weekly advice on bathroom remodeling until there ready.

When they call you, not only are they ready to buy but they'll use you because you have educated them and you have built a relationship with them.

I would like you to pretend that your sitting in your kitchen and your looking over the mail that you just brought in.

You flip through the bills, and notice that there are three(3) postcards for carpet cleaning offering the same incredible deals to clean the carpet in your house.

The problem is that they all three offer the same deal and they professional the same. Who do you choose ?
You probably just throw the cards in the air and see what one lands closest to you.

Now let me change the situation a little. Now when you look at the post cards for carpet cleaning, you notice one of the carpet cleaning post cards offers something different.

The postcard doesn't advertise their great rates ( which are the same as everybody else, but instead invites you to get a great offer from their web site.

They offer a:

  • Coupon for a bottle of free spot removal
  • Expert advice for cleaning spots out of your carpet
  • What kind of carpets not to buy
  • How to avoid getting ripped off by other carpet cleaners

What ever you think your customers would need to know or want. The point is to use the post cards to get old or new customers to your web site. Giving them a benefit is what is needed to get them there.

Once there at the site, your web site ( electronic salesman ) can sell them on why you are the best and why they would be crazy to go anywhere else( that's another lesson that you can ask me by clicking on contact form ).

Here's another plus to this idea. It may just happen that your ready to buy carpet cleaning services, dry cleaning services, or my favorite a time share in the middle of the desert ( just kidding but you get my drift )

Although right now I have no interest in a time share in the middle of the desert, it would be nice if I could get some tips on buying timeshares or how to avoid getting taken by timeshare salesman ( if that's possible). Once I have gone to the web site with the reassurance that I don't have to buy anything I read about timeshare buying tips. I like the fact that I wasn't pressured to buy right now and decide to put my name in for a free newsletter or more information about warnings on timeshare purchasing.

Now I can get continued information and the timeshare folks can keep in front of me ( as long as no one is pressuring me to buy) and when I am ready to buy a timeshare ( I really am looking ) I will probably buy from this nice helpful company, because I know them and they have helped me in the past.

Wondering what a plumber could give offer on a post card to get customers to their web site ? Here are some suggestions:

  • Tips on standard maintenance plumbing practices
  • How single females can get the toilet unplugged without having to marry a plumber
  • How to replace the toilet handle when it breaks
  • How to shut of the water valve when winter arrives

Heck your the plumber, suggest things that you think your customer would need to know. Better yet ask your customers what they would need to know.
