Jeff Cohn, a twenty five year veteran in the sales and marketing industry. Thanks for coming buy and using the site ( or at least checking it out). I own a water damage/fire/mold restoration company in Baltimore, Maryland and after 20 years I’m thankful that with great customers, great management and great employees the company has been very successful.

But it wasn’t like that in the beginning. I was supposed to be the next generation owner of a 70 year old business making socks. Yup socks and I was proud of that ( it could have been worse, my family could have been in the sanitary napkin business. Imagine telling every one what my family did).

Anyway to make a very long story very story short, at the ripe old age of 18, my father had died, family business went into the toilet, and I was going to college not having a clue what I was going to do with my life. All I knew was that I wanted to be a salesman like my father. Interestingly most folks think that if you own a business, then you can’t be a salesman at the same time. This is just the opposite. Owning and running a business is standard process, if you follow the rules. But an owner has to have a speciality trade/skill, unless the company is so large that all he/she has to do is collect the money.
But most owners are always selling ( with or without a sales force ).

Our family trade was selling. So I decided to into the family trade of selling and when I asked the college I attended University of Maryland, what I should major in, they said anything for sales( how wrong they were ). So I majored in Sociology. Sociology was Interesting, but I wasn’t a employee magnet by a long shot.

So I graduated college ( my mother was thrilled) and found a selling job at Nationwide Warehouse And Storage selling matrices and furniture. I stayed there for 1 year and was asked to work for a local carpet store Floors Etc. Nice family, but the opportunity to move up was limited. Then I worked for Chesapeake flooring ( Chesapeake Rug and Drapery), that after 4 months they went out of business.

I decided to start ( my first real decision without my mommy ), to start a carpet cleaning business for commercial buildings ( I learned this concept from Chesapeake Rug and Drapery ) .

I built this business up slowly eventually adding my brother Mike. Things were ok for the first two years, then we added water damage clean up , fire damage clean up, mold damage remediation, and reconstruction. I highly suggest marketing and sales professionals to look into this type of business. It is recession proof and the income potential is amazing. Although I question the other owners in this industry and their thought process to sales and marketing.

Well, after 20 years I have been fortunate to have a great management staff to run the company leaving me to sell and market, my trade and entertainment. Yes entertainment as I enjoy selling ( baby what a high !)

Why did I create this site?

I have and always will try to improve my selling trade abilities. Although I think I’m good ( a six million dollar company ain’t bad ) selling and marketing isn’t any different from being a doctor, lawyer, CPA, rocket scientist etc. So what gives sales and marketing professionals ( not everyone ) the right not to train anymore or learn new skills?

I wonder how many sales/marketingpeople continually get trained on their own,not including companies who force training on them. My guess is not many.

But there are many sales professionals who are always looking for sites containing new training, blogs, articles, podcasts, so they can be better at their trade.

That’s why I created this site. For those trade professionals who want to improve and hone their skills. Not to hustle, but to assist in business transactions to improve our economy, peoples well being and the world it self. Sales professionals have the most important job on earth they just don’t realize it.
