internet marketing

Marketing on the internet seems confusing and technical?

Yes it does look technical and geeky. But actually it's easy to learn. I am a sales person in our company and watched how our web designer took over the web site marketing. Actually we received very little business and he kept telling us that it tales time. After 2 years I suggested that I could do a better job. Well they put their money ( very little ) where my mouth was and I went searching how to learn how to market on the internet.

The secret I found out was that it takes time, not geeky computer skills. Now I'm not hiding the fact you do need to understand some terms, but it's easy easy easy.

To make this article easy to read and get to the points here are some guide lines when marketing on the internet. Remember that I suggest sales reps and owners learn from this and break away from the web designer geeky grip.

1. You need to have control of your web site on a daily basis. Don't worry, there are software programs to control your web site for people like you and me that have no clue about computer languages. Don't let anyone fool you, there out there. I use two programs myself. The control will make your site climb the search engine rankings

2. Understand what internet marketing is- The main definition of internet or web site marketing is called digital marketing. digital marketing is broken down into three main components, Search Engine Optimization ( SEO ), Search Engine Marketing ( SEM ) and Web 2.0 ( Social Media Marketing).

SEO is basically pleasing the search engines with quality content ( information on your site that will inform visitors ). The more you do it and the better it is, the higher you rank. There's more to ranking, but that's one of the main parts of the puzzle.

SEM is basically purchasing ad space on the search engines web page. That's the high lighted parts on the top and sides of the search page. There is whole science to that and don't trust the fact that if you just pay the right amount of money you will get customers calling. I would hold off on SEM unless you have a lot of money to spend and an understand company.

The third section of digital marketing is WEB 2.0. Sounds fancy and technical, but it's another name for social media marketing. You know face book, twitter, my space, etc.

3. What do I need to do start marketing That's easy. Start reading is the cheapest way to learn. Although PPC is easiest way and the fastest, it is also the most expensive. When I started I spent $ 8,000 one month because I didn't know what I was doing, Ouch.

I would suggest reading on SEO and Web 2.0. There easy topics to read about and you can start right away, which is the really cool thing. The problem when purchasing any books on this topic is who to believe. There are experts who know what they are talking about, and there are rip off artists looking for the next sucker. You need to discover who they are.

Remember one thing, I was laughed at when I suggested that I market our web site on the internet and now 25 % of my sales come from the internet ( that's closed sales , not leads ).
